35th Ave Locksmith The Future Of Locks

It may seem strange to start our conversation about the future of locks by starting with smartphones but that may be the very best way. Smartphones are no longer phones first and foremost. They've become command centers for the high-tech hassles of day-to-day life. Everything from Internet browsing and picture-taking to instant messaging and credit card transactions can be done from your ubiquitous communications device.

But one holdout of the analog world has innovators and entrepreneurs scrapping for a digital solution: the centuries-old lock-and-key. It makes sense to fuse those three most essential personal possessions, your phone, wallet and keys into a single device?

Unlike the phone or wallet, though, the challenge here is to replace not just a single house key, but your entire key chain, otherwise, what's the point? If you add smartphone functionality for just one or two locks, all you've done is complicate your entry situations.

For this reason, many analysts foresee slow market growth, especially when it comes to domestic use of smart locks.

Locks and doors tend to have long life cycles. Apart from newly built places, the addressable market may expand rather slowly.

Despite an uncertain outlook, the market is rife with competition. Kevo, Bitlock, Lockitron, UniKey, Goji, KISI, ECKey and August Smart Lock are a few of the start-ups attempting to improve on the traditional house key.

A lock must be secure but easy to use.  A typical home entry door may have to accommodate adults, adults with special needs and children.  Currently there are keyed locks and a combination touchpad and keyed entries.  For the addition of a lock controlled by a smartphone the lock must still allow entry in case your smartphone is forgotten, lost or damaged.

Entry into your locked car can have a keyfob that broadcasts a single so that as you approach your car the door automatically unlocks. People with special needs could use a device like this to open their entry door to replace the now garage door remote like opener.

No matter how the lock world changes you will still need people that understqand and can imnstall and service these new high-tech devices.

35th Ave Locksmith Presents Key Arizona Places: Administration and Science Building Arizona State University

The Administration and Science Building, originally known as Science Hall, is a building on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. It is the second-oldest building on campus, constructed in 1909. It currently houses the University Club, a members-only institution open to faculty, staff and community members.

Science Hall is a two-story brick building measuring 70 feet by 92 feet, constructed on a granite foundation. While Science Hall is executed in the Queen Anne style with its scale, massing and steeply pitched roof, it also reflects how Classical Revival influences had been growing since the turn of the century, with denticulated cornices; an arcaded entry; and a pedimented Palladian dormer.

The building, designed by D. W. Millard and built by Harvey D. Patton, was constructed in 1909 as one of three original buildings that formed the first quad of the Territorial Normal School in Tempe. Old Main is the only other building that survives today. It was originally constructed to house the school's small science department as well as administrative functions.

As the normal school grew, the building was soon modified. It was remodeled in 1935 and again in 1950; the latter renovation coincided with the science department moving to a new Sciences Building (now known as Discovery Hall) and the conversion of "Old Science Hall" into the home of Arizona State College's English department.

The 1950 addition, with Mel Ensign as architect, added a fire stair and restroom projection and was one of several alterations to the now-historic buildings on campus (around the same time, an expansion was made to Old Main). In the mid-1960s, the English department moved to its own new home: the Language and Literature Building, located across from the Old Science Building on the quad and at the corner of University Drive and College Avenue. Soon after, during the Vietnam War, ROTC programs moved in, and by the 1980s it was known as the "Fine Arts Annex" and housed some arts programs.

In the summer of 1983, the School of Art was told that the structure, whose foundation had been damaged by rot and termites, was no longer suitable to be occupied; the building was slated for demolition. However, in the mid-1980s, several university buildings from the 1930s and earlier were listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Fine Arts Annex.

After the building's designation as historic, renovations were made to remove the 1950 Ensign addition and restore the building to its original appearance. In 1989, the University Club was created as a members-only club for faculty, staff and parents of current ASU students.

35th Ave Locksmith Says Protect Children From Toxic Chemicals in Your Home

There are some very simple steps you can take to help you save children from environmental hazards around the home. Follow our ABC steps to help protect your children and pets.

A. Always store pesticides and other household cleaning products, chemicals, including chlorine bleach, out of children's reach. Preferably stored in a securely locked child proof cabinet.

B. Read the Label FIRST! Pesticide products, household cleaning products, and pet products can be dangerous or ineffective if too much or too little is used.

C. Before applying pesticides or other household chemicals, remove children and their toys, as well as pets, from the area. Keep children and pets away until the pesticide has dried or as long as is recommended on the label. Read and follow all label cautions. If your use of a pesticide or other household chemical is interrupted (perhaps by a phone call), properly reclose the container and remove it from children’s reach. Always use household products in child-resistant packaging.

D. Never transfer pesticides to other containers that children may associate with food or drink (like soda or water bottles), and never place rodent or insect baits where small children can get to them.

E. When applying insect repellents to children, read all directions first; do not apply over cuts, wounds, or irritated skin; do not apply to eyes, mouth, hands, or directly on the face; and use just enough to cover exposed skin or clothing, but do not use under clothing.

F. Homes built before 1978 may have been painted with lead-based paint. If you plan to remodel or renovate, get your home tested. Never try to remove lead paint yourself. Ask about lead when buying or renting a home. Sellers and landlords must disclose known lead hazards in houses or apartments built before 1978. If you have any doubts get your child tested for lead. There are no visible symptoms of lead poisoning, and children may suffer behavior or learning problems as a result of exposure to lead paint hazards.

G. Another hazard that can be found in older homes is asbestos. The mere presence of asbestos in a home or a building is not hazardous. The danger is that asbestos materials may become damaged over time. Damaged asbestos may release asbestos fibers and become a health hazard. During remodeling asbestos particles can become airborne and that is when it becomes a serious health hazard.

H. Wash children’s hands, toys, and bottles often. Regularly clean floors, window sills, and other surfaces to reduce possible exposure to lead, cleaning chemicals and pesticide residues.

35th Ave Locksmith How To Prevent A Door Kick In!

You can't argue the laws of physics. The weakest part of any structure will break when enough pressure is applied. This same basic principal applies to doors.

The bottom line is that the weakest part on your door is going to break if it is kicked hard enough. If you do not reinforce your door jamb or the lock area on the door and hinges, your door can still be kicked in! When buying a product to stop a kick-in, you are wasting your money if you don’t reinforce all three week points on your door.

Any company who tells you that reinforcing one area on your door is sufficient has never really tested what they are trying to sell you. If door protection were not necessary, we would not put locks on our doors. If longer screws were adequate to prevent hinges from being kicked-in, that is all we would provide.

Replacing the door lock: with an ANSI Grade 1 (the highest) is just the start of a secure front door, because the reality is most burglars don't even bother picking the lock. Besides entering through an open window or door left unlocked, a great many burglars simply kick in the front door.

Replace the deadbolt strike plate: The strike plate is the metal piece where the deadbolt latch secures into the door frame. In most cases the strike plate is only capable of holding the door shut, not really strong enough to prevent the door from being opened during a forced entry. Installing or replacing a strike plate with a stronger box strike model with longer screws and a full metal enclosure for the latch to lock into will improve the door's ability to withstand a few full force kicks.

Replace cheap hollow core doors with solid wood or metal doors: Hollow core doors should only be used for interior spaces, not for exterior entries. Solid wood doors are a bit more expensive, but infinitely stronger than hollow core.

Secure the door hinges: If an experienced burglar notices a door swings outward, he may resort to attacking at the door's Achilles’ heel: the hinges. There are three methods to improve security at this vulnerable point: setscrew in the hinge, fast-riveted (crimped) pins, and safety studs. All three prevent the hinge pin from being removed and the door from being lifted up and off.

Add a layer of security and lighting: Ideally, a would-be burglar would take a look at your front door and just skip it at first glance. Making it clear the front door is under surveillance with sufficient lighting can make your home more trouble than it's worth.

35th Ave Locksmith Buy Cheap Buy Twice or More Applies to Locks

Have you heard the phrase… “Buy Cheap = Buy Twice?” Some folks even say that it should read “Buy Cheap, Buy Twice or More.”

Maybe the bigger question is has it happened to you? Have you chosen a cheap model thing thinking it was saving you money and then it broke or wore out and you had to replace it sooner than you expected?

Why do you think they sell cheap pens in packs of four or more?

The old adage of “buy cheap, buy twice” has never been truer. Not only has this definition of false economy endured, its essence is now amplified.  If you buy cheap, not only will you buy twice, three times etc., but ultimately you will pay in other ways…pollution, illness.

The alternative is equally true… Buy BETTER, Buy LESS. Better quality the first time……less trips to the returns department, less testing of the warranty policy, less time wasted, better quality consumer goods… less line-up time, car time, internet price checking time, emotional expenditure.

When comes to buying locks for your home or business this old adage comes with an additional factor. Do you think a cheap lock can be called a safe and secure lock? Not only will a cheap lock break or fail sooner and need to be replaced sooner… how well will it protect your family and valuable possessions?

Are you part of the population that is severely challenged by the knowledge of what the global consumer economy is doing to humanity and the planet.  Some folks are driven by price, and price alone… have you entered the land of $20 DVD players, $1,000 cars, cheap sushi, Big Macs… the list can and does go on and on.

What lesson will it take for you to learn about false economy? How much can you save by buying a cheap lock? How much can you lose by putting one into to use? We aren’t taking about just having to replace it again and again.  We are taking about keeping your family and property safe from harm or complete loss.

If you buy a cheap lock to save money and it doesn’t protect you why did you bother to lock the door at all? A cheap lock will fail sooner than a quality lock.  A quality lock can last a lifetime. And most important during that lifetime it offers you much better peace of mind. And how do you go about putting a value on peace of mind.

Visit 35th Avenue Locksmith and learn why a quality lock is priceless.

Stay safe at home with proper quality locks and safety devices. Are you ready to choose that quality locksmith? A quick visit to 35thavelocksmith.com can help solve all of your locksmith needs. We are a family owned and operated locksmith company in Phoenix Arizona. Our company is over 30 years old and at its heart is an experinced certified locksmith.
